The Claim

In the May 2026 United Kingdom local council elections, two Reform UK local council candidates died before election day but still appeared on the ballot as candidates.

The Short Version

The evidence does not support the claim as stated. Although Reform UK appears to have had two local council candidates die before the May 2026 polling date, UK local-election rules require the ward poll to be postponed or countermanded when that happens. So the May election did not proceed with deceased candidates still printed on a live ballot.

Caveats

  • The phrase “appeared on the ballot” is the load-bearing error: nomination or later rerun status is not the same as a live May polling-day ballot.
  • At least one death is firmly confirmed; the second is less clearly documented in top-tier sources, though that does not rescue the ballot claim.
  • UK local council elections differ from some other elections: a candidate’s pre-poll death stops the ward poll rather than leaving the ballot unchanged.
