Human activities caused essentially all observed global warming since 1850.

The Claim

Climate change is not caused by human activity.

The Short Version

The evidence directly contradicts the categorical denial of human causation. Major scientific assessments conclude that greenhouse-gas emissions and other human activities have caused essentially all observed global warming since the late 19th century, while natural influences alone cannot explain it. Uncertainty about attributing particular weather events does not weaken attribution of the global climate trend.

Caveats

  • Natural factors affect climate, but they do not explain the dominant recent warming trend.
  • Uncertainty about individual extreme events must not be conflated with uncertainty about global climate attribution.
  • Some listed materials are secondary summaries, but the conclusion is independently supported by primary assessments and peer-reviewed research.
