Albania’s Muslim majority emerged principally through conversions during centuries of Ottoman rule. Academic histories describe a gradual process, especially from the 16th through 18th centuries, shaped by Ottoman taxation, state institutions, career incentives, and local religious conditions. The wording should not be read as claiming universal or predominantly forced conversion.
